Factory records confirm build date of 4thOctober 1935 finished in claret with brown leather upholstery. The first owner was W. H. Birmingham of Carlton Court Hotel, Pall Mall Place SW7.
This 1935 Aston Martin MKII short chassis, formally part of the Pate Transportation Museum in Texas, until it’s closing in 2010, where upon RM Sotheby’s were instructed to disposed of the entire collection. The winning bidder at the ensuing auction was a UK businessman at that time-based in Asia.
Upon CHX35’s return to the UK from it’s previous home in Texas, the car was entrusted to Ecurie Bertelli for mechanical rebuild, where it was soon stripped and inspected. Following their detailed inspection, the engine was rebuilt using new modern design crank, rods on shell bearings, pistons etc. Invoices relating to this work are in the history file ready for inspection along side the car. They also rebuilt the steering box, along with the front axle and braking system.
Once the mechanics had been completed the car was used and enjoyed with the coachwork in un-restored state during the limited periods CHX35’s owner was back home in the UK.
At the end of 2014 with the owner looking to return to the UK on a more permanent basis, it was decided that the restoration of the bodywork and trim should be completed. Returning the car to factory colour specification was an integral part of this restoration. Inevitably during this work, two body timbers needed to be replaced (door sills) to ensure the long-term future of CHX35 all the other original timbers remain and in very good condition, as is the body skin. The bright work was been re-plated at the same time. The hood was renewed in black double duck as was the tonneau, a full re-wire also completed for good measure. A photographic record of this work also with written detail and invoice are also in the aforementioned history file.
Reluctantly offered to the open market following its detailed sympathetic restoration, which has ensured CHX35’s long-term future. An idea sporting 2+2 for a whole host of events from competition in VSCC events to endurance rallying or scenic tours, it’s a car which is ready for immediate use.
